Information - BATEMANS BAY RALLY
2011 Rally of the Bay – Saturday, July 30, 2011
Run on arguably the best roads in all of New South Wales, this event is sure to be one not to be missed. The event is structured to re-unite rallying with the local community by bringing the rally and the promotional activities into the town and regional media.
The Rally of the Bay is a round of the Australian 2WD Rally Masters, the Pipe KIng Southern Cross Rally Series and the RaceBrakes Rookie series. AASA Log Books and Licenses are welcome.
A ceremonial start at midday beside the river will kick things off, giving locals the rare opportunity to see the competitors and the field of predominantly classic 2WD cars, up close. With shop fronts and the ocean within an arm’s reach of the start ramp, this is sure to excite all involved and really rev up the atmosphere.
As the cars first turn their wheels, they face approximately 155 competitive kilometers to conquer. Held over 7 stages, of some of the most flowing, readable and truly enjoyable roads that should be referred to as the holy grail of rallying. Many of the stages are quite wide with grip available throughout their entirety. The roads lend themselves to huge Scandinavian flicks, extremely late braking, and the occasional crowd pleasing donut.
Not only are the roads truly world class, fair rainfall over the past few months has really made this entire region such a picturesque backdrop for a high profile rally. With green ferns lining the stage edge, hardwood trees as far as the eye can see, and plenty of creek crossings, this is sure to be an inspiring adventure. However, don’t forget your lights! With the first car not due to finish the rally until 7:30pm, there is plenty of competition to be done after the sun sets.
Spectators will have plenty of chances to view all the action, with 5 competitive spectator points during the rally. The final spectator point is a beauty and will be fully lit with flood-lights and have live commentary with up to date results and rally news. So bring your cheer squads and let them see how the drivers perform a handbrake turn, a Scandinavian flick, or how sometimes it can all go wrong….
Although the service park and finish are all located in the one location near the centre of Batemans Bay, the relaxed format allows time for service crews to get to spectator points to see their own car – plus many others – and get back to service with time to spare.
The hills of the New South Wales south coast will soon be re-united with an almost forgotten friend…. The sound of screaming 2 wheel drive monsters…
Laze on a beach, play on the water, dive deep, catch a wave, walk through rainforests, catch fish from a tinnie, head up river, chase a marlin, tee off, eat out or shop till you drop. Everything you need to relax and have fun is close at hand. Batemans Bay caters for everyone as a holiday destination with plenty of accommodation options from 5 star luxury to camping on the beach. The cafes and restaurants are sensational and it's easy to get a good coffee. Clyde River Oysters and succulent local seafood feature on many menus - order yours with a view of the Clyde River and Tollgate Islands.
Within minutes of the town centre in the Batemans Marine Park you'll find excellent recreational fishing, swimming, snorkelling, diving, kayaking, water skiing, jet skies, beach walks, headlands, lookouts and much more and with a backdrop of National Parks and State Forests to explore it's easy to immerse yourself in nature.
Birdland Animal Park, Mogo Zoo, the Original Gold Rush Colony, Treasures from the Deep Shell and Opal Museum and a wonderful array of galleries will give you hours of entertainment.
